A monthly magazine for book lovers

The first issue of Den Gulden Winckel was published in January 1902. The opening article, signed F.S.K., invited readers into an imaginary bookstore filled with books. The magazine aimed to bring writers, publishers, booksellers, and readers closer together.

Books on the table

Book reviews, portraits, and literary news formed the core of the magazine. Browsing through it today reveals both well-known names and long-forgotten books. This mix makes the old issues especially interesting.

The years of Van Eckeren and Greshoff

The 1910 volume's title page lists Gerard van Eckeren as editor, with Hollandia-Drukkerij in Baarn as the publisher. By 1926, Van Eckeren and J. Greshoff are both credited. The subtitle then reads Illustrated monthly magazine for book lovers.

Forty years of literature

The magazine was published from 1902 until 1942. Many volumes are available digitally at DBNL, allowing original articles, illustrations, and title pages to be viewed side by side.

We are looking for loose issues, bound volumes, and covers of Den Gulden Winckel, with particular interest in around 1920–1925. Incomplete volumes, advertisements, letters about the magazine, and memories are also welcome.
